However the Oasys update is superior to either. The software is superior ( has a resonant filter algorithim, among other things) there are virtually no sonic differences excpet in the converters which depend on your computer, and it is far easier to edit than the EX.
I have an EX and the software and the wavestation update in the Oasys.Īt this point I rarely use the EX. I wouldn't pay a penny more than that today. When I sold mine in 1998 I only got around $400 for it. I've read the Korg Legacy program's Wavestation sounds better than the hardware version I'm inclined to believe this.
On the plus side, the effects were pretty damned good and I found the interface great for its day. I know memory limitations were behind this, but it was still a fucking stupid way of setting up voice architecture. Patches must be parts of performances and if you change a patch that's in multiple performances all those performances end up sounding different. It's theoretically possible to program a monophonic performance that uses more oscillators than the synth has. Layer two patches and you're down to four voices. Layer two sequences with crossfades and you're down to an eight voice synth. 32 oscillators sounds like a lot, but wavesequences that crossfade gobble up two voices. digital waveforms being swept while under hard sync sounded like crap Loved it for the time, but it had the usual limitations of many synths from that vintage: I had one from new - so new that it was one of the first few dozen that had the LFO bug glitch (pretty much every one in the field was remedied, so don't bother worrying).
